FINAL
NATURE OF CARE

In our present time, the topic of selfcare has become complex in its portrayal. It is being conceived as an act of luxury to be performed by oneself, an escape or hideaway of an appearance of perfection to upkeep. Using nature as a metaphor, we are placing the selfcare practice in a different light and ask the viewer to critically assess how to best care for their individual. To place our roots back into the ground, and reflect on what nourishes our beings, and what harms us? Which balance should be found? The search for a ‘’ reclaiming of a self that is mired in a late capitalist lifestyle is one that requires thoughtfulness, a sense of self-care, and a commitment to time as something to give, not to spend’’ (Uzma Z. Rizvi, 2016, p. 93). Thinking of ecosystems, it should be seen as a circulation of energy, where loss and gain should be equal.

Via our illustrated map one can envision their body to be part of nature. When placing the focus on listening and knowing the internal and external factors in your system, the goals and values that are important to you, and which ones to let go, the awareness that it brings helps you get closer to your self. ‘’Once we recognize ourselves, we begin to recognize our positions, and how our positions may be at the expense of others, be those others human or non-human ‘’ (Uzma Z. Rizvi, 2016, p. 94).

The contextual frames used for this project lies in the theory of our inner psyche, the psychology of the self. Researching the map of the soul by Carl Jung, visualized and helped us understand which care is needed. It tells the story of what we are now, everything we once where and as well what we potentially can become. This core, or seed, is the starting point of our concept. Using evolution as a tool to optimize care, analyzing eco systems, and looking at terms like autecology and synecology to help us understand our human systems for health, body and mind, culture and community.
